My love affair with hemp began a few years ago after reading a shocking report about the cotton industry – the millions of pounds of pesticides it consumes and the oceans of water (quite literally the Aral Sea) needed for its irrigation. Organic cotton may not consume pesticides but it still drinks water……. and so my search began for an alternative.

I found hemp and the more I read about its benefits the more I wanted to use it. But , supply is limited. Despite hemp being the clean living member of the cannabis family, governments around the world are obsessed with hemp’s narcotic cousin and make it as difficult as possible for farmers to grow it.

Hemp’s versatility means you can make almost anything from it, from food to plastic and of course, lovely textiles. But what did I want to make? I roamed the textile fairs, met weavers and spinners then one day I spotted a fabric that answered my question. I knew I wanted to sleep in.

The result is my first small range of 100% hemp luxurious bedlinen, sourced and woven in Italy. It is, however, just the start as there is so much more that with the help of hemp I plan to offer. Hemp is set to become the thinking persons fabric of choice.
